The University had a surplus of 39.2 million euros in the 2023-24 academic year.

The institution allocated 31.5 million euros to new projects, according to its latest financial report .

The University of Navarra closed the 2023-24 academic year with a surplus of 39.2 million euros. This is reflected in the financialreport published by the academic center, which includes the activity of the four campus - Pamplona, San Sebastian, Madrid and Barcelona - as well as IESE's international campuses.

The operating result amounted to 24.8 million euros, slightly below the 25.3 million euros recorded in the previous year. The financial result achieved a significant surplus of 14.3 million euros, well above the 4.7 million euros obtained in the previous year. This was due to the favorable performance of the markets.

In this context, the University allocated 31.5 million euros to new projects. These included the acquisition of medical equipment, such as a state-of-the-art scanner and an AI mammograph for the Clínica 's headquarters in Madrid, as well as a high-precision MRI scanner and a new gamma camera for Nuclear Medicine in Pamplona. Teaching spaces were also modernized, sports facilities on the Pamplona campus were renovated, and actions were carried out on IESE's various campus to improve the sustainability of the environment.

More than 7,000 professionals

The University increased its revenues to 705 million euros, an increase of 42 million euros over the 2022-23 academic year, an increase of 6.3%. This growth is mainly due to the expansion of professor, care and research activities.    

The Clínica stands out in particular, with an increase in revenue of 21.5 million euros, up 6.5 percent compared to the previous year. All academic and research centers, the Clinic and IESE Business School closed the year with a surplus.

Significant increases were recorded both in service revenues, which reached 621.8 million euros, 38 million more than last year, and in grants and donations for the activity, which amounted to 70.1 million euros, 5.4% more than in 2022-23, an additional 3.5 million. Most of these funds come from grants and competitive funding competitions, obtained thanks to the work and talent of the researcher. The resources are mainly used to finance research activity, reaffirming the institution's commitment to scientific excellence and the generation of knowledge.

At the same time, operating expenses also rose by EUR 42 million to EUR 680 million, up 6.7%, driven by increased activity.

The largest item was staff costs, which amounted to 390 million euros and accounted for 57.4 % of the total. This chapter experienced an increase of 34 million euros compared to the previous year, an increase of 9.8 %. In total, the University of Navarra has 7,020 professionals, of whom 4,644 work in Pamplona. In this regard, the president, María Iraburu, emphasized that "behind the figures are the people: the effort and dedication of those who are part of our university community, and whose contribution is essential to achieve these results". 

13 million for research and more than 6 million for scholarships

The General Manager, Álvaro Balibrea, also highlighted the commitment and dedication of the academic center's professionals, whose work has been fundamental in continuing to strengthen the professor, care and research activities. "Thanks to their efforts, we can move forward in our mission statement to offer a higher quality service and respond to the challenges of the future," he said. He also stressed that "the goal is to maintain sustained growth that will allow us to make new investments and continue to improve our infrastructures and services".

In relation to the aid received, Álvaro Balibrea highlighted the contribution of 8,283 people and 438 companies and institutions, whose donations to the University in the 2023-24 academic year reached a total of 24 million euros. Of this amount, more than 13 million went to research, 6.5 million to scholarships, 3.5 million to the construction and activities of the Art Museum of the University of Navarra, and 1 million to other projects.

Balibrea thanked the support of those who have collaborated with their donations, underlining their core topic role in the development of strategic initiatives such as the PerpetualAlumni Scholarships and the BIOMA Center. "These contributions allow us to advance projects that reinforce our mission statement and guarantee new opportunities for students and society," he said.
