Nursing directors of the Guipuzcoa healthcare system discussed the challenges of the profession
The School of Nursing of the University of Navarra brought together the directors of nursing of the Guipuzcoa healthcare system. Under the degree scroll "Nursing and society: new challenges in the profession", the new needs that professionals must face in the 21st century were discussed.
In their speeches, all the speakers agreed on the importance of making nursing visible through the professionalism of its nurses. For her part, Ana Orbegozo, director of nursing at the Berminham Center, stressed the importance of "learning from the countries that are doing the best in our sector, innovation is the core topic that differentiates Basque health".
Amaia Azkue, director of nursing at Policlínica Guipuzkoa, defended that what makes the difference in Basque healthcare and is a challenge for the profession is "the rigor and commitment of the professionals who form it. Commitment to their work, to research and to the nursing profession itself".
In his turn, David Gonzalez, director nursing Onkologikoa showed the repos and opportunities that the is found every day in his profession. Patients are no longer passive. Now they want to be informed, to decide what treatment to receive and to consult other professionals who can help them, he said, and he proposed to carry out projects to adapt spaces to the needs of patients.
Finally, Javier Ortíz, attachment of teaching and research in OSI Donostialdea, stressed the importance of programs of study in nursing and assured that "during Degree one discovers the nurse within oneself and at postgraduate program one acquires specific competencies for professional life".
Nursing Cycle and ProgressThis colloquium is part of the Nursing and Progress Cycle that has as goal to prepare for 2020, declared by the World Health Organization as the "Year of the Nurse and the Midwife". To this end, the School of Nursing of the University of Navarra has joined the global campaign Nursing Now, which has as goal enhance the figure of the nurse, highlighting the need for well-trained nurses. The next conferences will be held on April 26 in Oviedo and May 15 in Bilbao.
