Pamplona hosted the I International Forum on Wood Construction in Spain, organized by the FORUM HOLZBAU platform atorganized by the FORUM HOLZBAU platform at partnership with the Chair Madera of the University of Navarra.

A meeting in which quotation was attended by all professionals in the timber construction sector: from architects, consultants and engineers or students to technicians and operators on site, through Administration, Associations and control bodies.

The content of the conferences had an eminently practical approach so that participants could exchange the most updated information on the sector. In addition, there was a exhibition of stands where companies attended visitors and presented their services and products.

The International Forum on Wood Construction in Spain derives from the "Holzbau-Forum", the congress of reference letter at international level in the sector, which has been held for 24 years in Garmisch (Germany) and is organized by forum-holzbau, an international platform that brings together the universities of Helsinki (Finland), Munich and Rosenheim (Germany), Biel (Switzerland), Vienna (Austria) and Prince George (Canada).

Congresses are held annually in other European countries (France, Italy, Sweden/Norway, United Kingdom, Poland...) and Spain is now joining them, in response to the growing interest in timber construction in our country.

Speakers included Andrew Lawrence, a global wood specialist from ARUP (a British company of consultants, engineers and designers); Francisco Arriaga Martitegui, Full Professor of the department of Forestry and Environmental Engineering and management of the Polytechnic University of Madrid; Juan Ignacio Fernández-Golfín, of the research center forestal of the high school Nacional de research y Tecnología Agraria y Alimentaria(INIA); and José Manuel Cabrero, director of the Chair Madera de la School of Architecture of the University of Navarra, among others.

During the congress was made submission of the award of the PFC Competition. PFC Competition Chair Wood 2019, awarded to Alejandro Barranco Donderiswho received a scholarship to study the Master's Degree in management Environmental Buildings at the University of Navarra.

The project presented by the young architect of the Polytechnic University of Valencia 'The recovery of the perception of the territory', stood out for the use of wood as the main structural material, for its creative and innovative use in the design; for the appropriate response to the basic functional and architectural criteria as well as for the architectural coherence and the sustainability and environmental criteria.

The Master's Degree at design and management Building Environmental trains experts in sustainability at Building, both at design and in quantifying the efficiency of the measures adopted. It focuses on the management of energy (active and passive measures) and materials, environmental certification, life cycle analysis and new building systems.
