Like the rest of the students at campus, the coronavirus pandemic forced Carmen García Baiges to stop going to class and stay at home, specifically at high school mayor Goroabe, where she lives. But Carmen, a native of Jeréz de la Frontera and a 5th year Architecture student, decided not to stand idly by and do her bit to alleviate the effects of the health crisis.

Along with other students, she joined an initiative promoted by Tantaka to collaborate in the making of gowns. "I believe that with very little you can help. Giving a little time to others helped me a lot. We were going into exams and I spent most of the day studying and doing projects, but it's important not to forget more important things. I also think that I am very lucky, my family is very well, we have lived very well the confinement; and this small gesture brings me a little closer to the reality that we are living now in the world", he assures.

In all, Carmen and her colleagues helped sew 75 blue gowns, which were then distributed to various health centers. "They brought us the fabric already cut according to patron saint, thread and elastic for the sleeves of the gowns. And everyone collaborated with the time they had. I in particular did not make any whole gown, my work was to sew all the elastics to the sleeves that would later be closed. It was nice because it was not a task in which you are alone, but by helping each other, you get a lot done," she explains.

Knowledge of sewing was not a prerequisite for participation in this action. volunteer activities. Carmen says that she had sewn before, in fact, three friends bought a sewing machine and attended some class. But I know of people who have participated without knowing how. It is a question of having the desire, and besides, it was very easy. The initiative came from Estíbaliz, who works in Administration at high school and it was she who supervised the work and reviewed the result".
