Last Friday, November 28, the San Sebastian campus welcomed Christmas in an unusual setting. The construction of the new car park not only disrupted the routine of the students and employees of Tecnun y Ceitbut also made it necessary to move the location of the Christmas lighting.

The event was held in the car park located between the Ibaeta, Mecánica and Igara buildings, with the "Building the campus of the future" banner as a backdrop. There, at 18.30h, the chaplain and Alumni of the School, Don Alex Vaz, gave the blessing of the Christmas Tree and the Nativity with which he also blessed the nearly 200 attendees.

Next, the Tecnun delegate, Íñigo Bañuls, addressed "colleagues, professors, Tecnun and Ceit staff and friends" to encourage them that, "just as hope is born in the manger, each one of us should be the bearer of hope for others". He then encouraged the people gathered there to start a countdown.

To the cry of "5, 4, 3, 2, 1..." the Christmas tree set up for the occasion (and for the rest of Advent and Christmas) turned on its lights and the fireworks display began, which lasted several minutes. While those present looked up at the sky, the Christmas crib and the stars that have been placed in detail and with special care during the last week were lit.

Music and carols were not missing at the Christmas lighting. The Tecnun choir, the choir of international Erasmus students and other groups encouraged the public to sing and dance to, among other things, overcome the cold. This was also helped by the food truck installed in the area. There, the first to pass by to pick up their hot chocolate and buns were the students.

Despite the apparent changes, the Christmas switch-on was the same as always: an event at the gates of Advent and exams, synchronized with the city lights switch-on and a festive evening. Because, in the end, as Bañuls recalled in his speech, despite the circumstances and the difficulties that sometimes put the works, "we move forward with illusion and hope."
