The School of Architecture and Tantaka open a call to promote solidarity projects of students.

The School of Architecture and the time bank of the University of Navarra, Tantaka, present a call for proposals that will support solidarity projects promoted by students of the School and those in which students coordinated by different social organizations actively participate.
The goal is to encourage students' social initiative, strengthen leadership and management skills, promote collaborativework , solidarity architecture and service-learning. To this end, the School will provide each year up to 3000 euros to help the management of the projects and to support the faculty involved. It can be a volunteer activities action or a Final Degree project that, due to its Service Learning dimension, can be taken to the internship.
Those who wish to participate must submit their projects before January 16, 2017. The works will be selected by a jury formed by two professors from the School (one from each department), a professional from outside the University and a representative of Tantaka.
Architects Without Borders and the high school Official Basque-Navarre Architects Association (COAVN) are collaborating in this initiative.
Beyond the classroomThe School of Architecture of the University of Navarra celebrated Solidarity Day on November 25 with a roundtable in which Architects without Borders, Tantaka and Building their Future presented the projects in which professors, students and professionals of the School collaborate.
For years, students from the School have traveled to Guatemala to build houses and, since the 2012-13 academic year, the School has been collaborating with Tantaka to meet the housing needs of the most disadvantaged groups. During this time, five projects have been carried out, four in Navarra and one in Ethiopia. Most of these projects have consisted of interventions of different subject (mitigating dampness, installation of water heater or repairs of different subject, placement of furniture, screens, painting, carpentry, etc. ).
"You don't have to go far to help. That is the idea core topic of Tantaka Arquitectura. Doing something for others by providing architectural knowledge. There are many houses in Navarra in poor condition that need to be rehabilitated and that is where everyone can contribute their bit with their knowledge," said Carmen Monasterio, a teacher at the School and Tantaka volunteer who encouraged students to collaborate in the projects that are underway. Around 50 people, including teachers, students and employees of the School, are currently participating as Tantaka volunteers, mainly in the three housing projects in Caparroso, Echavacoiz Norte and Berriozar.
During the roundtable, Building their Future, presented its project, which started with the project Fin de Degree of a student of the School last year and led to more than 100 students participating in the construction of an experimental module outside the School of Architecture and more than 40 students of the School building this summer a high school in Kenya.
