The session, entitled"The family as a caring environment", was given in interview format between Paz Ugalde, director of development of the School, and Dr. Canga. During their intervention they answered questions such as what are the needs of the family in the care of their sick loved one or how nursing professionals should be trained to help them become a 'Sustainable Family Caregiver'.
In this line, Professor Canga pointed out that"nurses know how to detect the needs of families suffering from a chronic process or a dependency status because we have the knowledge and tools". To help and achieve a 'Sustainable Family Caregiver', she stressed, "we need healthcare professionals trained in the systemic family approach . With this, we will give meaning to the experience of caring".
More than 65 nurses from different hospitals and other healthcare companies and institutions participated in two meetings held in Zaragoza and Bilbao.
