More than 1,400 students and graduates of the University of Navarra and 88 companies took part in this year's Virtual Career Forum, employment , which goal aims to multiply job opportunities for its students and graduates and to respond to the recruitment needs of companies.

Among the companies and associations from various sectors that opted to seek talent at the academic centre were ABB-Niessen, Amazon, the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Navarra, CNTA, the Business Confederation of Navarra (CEN), Danone, El Corte Inglés, Hine Group, Iberdrola, IBM Consulting, Prodigioso Volcán, Sacyr and Viscofan. "The University of Navarra is once again committed to promoting employment rate and to connecting the university and business world through the online format. This allows our students and graduates to participate from anywhere in the world, in addition to being able to count on the partnership of leading national and international companies", says Roberto Cabezas Ríos, director of Career Services at the University of Navarra.

Specifically, a total of 1,125 students from Degree and Master's Degree and 303 alumni of different profiles registered at the fair. The participants were able to apply for 380 offers published by the companies and made a total of 5,250 applications. "This subject event motivates us to pursue offers from work to which we really aspire after four years of hard work", says Verónica Astorga Canestri, a 4th year student of Degree in bilingual marketing. Rodrigo Zibara Leal, student in the 4th year of Degree in Bilingual Business Administration and Management, who also participated in the fair, agrees with this idea: "These activities help a lot, especially for those of us who are about to enter the job market. We students feel more supported and prepared to achieve our goal job".

A bridge between students and companies

"We provide companies with the best university talent, with an excellent academic and humanistic training . But the search for employment is not immediate, it is not improvised. It requires a process of learning and effort and that is why the University, through Career Services, tries to prepare its students to go out into the world of work with differentiating elements that are highly valued by companies," says Roberto Cabezas.

The Virtual Career Forum allows for practice and networking. In this edition, the companies organised 42 online conferences, in which 938 users registered. In them, they explained questions such as their needs, what profiles they are interested in, how they work in the companies or what projects they are developing. In addition, they were able to interact with the participants via chat and video calls.

One of the graduates who took advantage of this opportunity is Rubén Azanza Astarriaga, who studied the Degree at Biochemistry and later studied the Master's Degree University in research, development and Innovation of Medicines: "Looking for employment is a learning process, just like any other subject. You have to put everything you have learnt into internship and the fair is a great opportunity to meet important people".

The participating companies emphasise that initiative is core topic to be successful in these meetings. "The proactivity of the students and their enthusiasm have led to a multitude of conversations that have allowed us to identify interesting candidates for our offers on employment", says Jon Beguiristain, director Sales at IBM Consulting.

Thanks to this proactivity, many students get an internship or their first employment through the fair. This is the case of Akemi Watanabe Morales, a 5th year student on the double degree Degree in Pedagogy and Primary Education Education , who will be doing an extracurricular internship in the summer at Meddeas, a human resources consultancy firm that works with the educational sector and which she found out about thanks to the fair. "Even if you don't look for employment immediately, the fair allows you to discover new possibilities that you hadn't considered. Everything depends to a large extent on our initiative. Not everyone has first-hand knowledge of the world of work, so the fair can be a good first step contact", says Akemi Watanabe.

This event is also an ideal opportunity for companies, as Leyre Platero Urra, HR Corporate International Mobility & HRC Processes at Viscofan, comments: "We have received information from quality candidates who are motivated to start their professional degree program with Viscofan. The organisation of this trade fair subject seems to us to be a great success, as it allows companies to make themselves known and show participants what they are going to find in the very near future". The stands of the 88 participating companies received a total of 21,794 visits from users.

The University of Navarra held the first edition of its virtual fair at employment in February 2020. In addition to online activities, Career Services organises face-to-face meetings that connect the university and business worlds.
