In this edition, for the first time, seven special awards were presented (until now there had been five) to recognize the work of individuals or institutions that have marked a milestone in their fields of work. In the case of the professor of the School of Medicine, it was highlighted "his eagerness to defend the benefits of the Mediterranean per diem expenses , which led him to be the first to demonstrate, in the middle of the pandemic, that following this dietary patron saint reduced the risk of covid by more than 60%".

"In these times of budgetary austerity in healthcare and challenges that could make the healthcare system unsustainable, there is a specialization program that is being rewarded and that is the solution. It is estimated that 75% of the health expense could be avoided if lifestyles were taken care of and preventive measures were applied, the per diem expenses...", said Professor Martinez during his thank you speech .

In addition, he remarked that this is not a award to degree scroll individual, but extends to a "great team of professionals", both from the University of Navarra and other international centers: "I have to thank my colleagues from other universities who have collaborated with us, especially in the Predimed and Predimed plus study, because we have taken those steps that make today throughout the world the Mediterranean per diem expenses the gold standard and the ideal model of life".

For her part, Minister Darias highlighted the service that the award winners provide to society and their contribution, from different fields, to the promotion of health: "These awards are a recognition of their entire trajectory and their excellent work. Congratulations for being a point of reference for society as a whole and for the value represented by the researchers, specialists, the staff healthcare... who give the best to the healthcare system".
