More official Olympians than in Barcelona

The Spanish Olympic delegation in Sydney included nine athletes from Navarre, seven men and two women, surpassing the eight who participated in the official programme in Barcelona-92.

Gabriel Esparza won the silver medal in Taekwondo, Jesús Mari Lacruz also won silver in Football and Mateo Garralda won his second bronze medal at the games. Miren León, in Judo, won an Olympic Diploma by finishing seventh in her category.

Also taking part were: Marta Mendía in the High Jump test , Jorge Péréz in Swimming, Iñigo Monreal in Athletics, Roberto Lezaun in Cycling MTB and Ricardo Echarte in Judo.

Four athletes and a new Paralympic medal

In the Paralympic Games, Begoña Redal and Santiago Pesquera, who won a new silver medal in the Boccia modality . Iván Fernández and Susana Echeverríaalso took part.
