I represent empathy within the three pillars that Brene Brown describes: courage, compassion and connection. 

Courage, because you have to be brave to speak your mind from your heart. Compassion, because, just as we are able to share our stories, we must be able to listen to the stories of others. Patients are usually in a vulnerable position. You have the capacity, not only to share your own vulnerability, but also to listen to them and understand them, which creates a connection.

In this poster I represent empathy as something more than a simple "I understand you, everything will be fine".

That depth of connection is the capacity to form meaningful and authentic relationships with other people. It is the essence of human experience, what breathes life and what gives meaning to our own. 

For all these reasons, I believe that empathy is an act of courage, compassion and connection.
