The high school of Tropical Health of the University of Navarra (ISTUN) is backed by the experience of several decades of research in tropical diseases at the University of Navarra.

More than one billion people in the world are already disabled or severely handicapped by a tropical disease. This is mainly due to the impossibility of providing them with vaccines or successful prevention. A large part of the problem lies in the fact that barely 1% of the resources of research worldwide are devoted to studying diseases in poor countries.

These tropical diseases are endemic in more than 140 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The list of diseases is extensive: cholera, malaria, leishmaniasis, Ebola, dengue fever, filariasis, brucellosis, leprosy, Chagas disease, etc.

The goal of high school of Tropical Health consists of researching these infections, at partnership with centres at research, universities and hospitals located in the countries that suffer them. By involving them in the study of the diseases they suffer from, we carry out a real transfer of technology, as well as helping them to train their researchers. In this sense, professionals from countries in Europe, America, Africa and Asia will be working and collaborating in this high school . In addition, the network of partnership scientific includes more than 22 medical research centres and universities from 16 countries.
