This work presents an analysis of polite and impolite verbal behavior in the Golden Age through an exceptional source : the eight entremeses by Miguel de Cervantes. The breadth of social representation and the variety of the characters involved in these plays, and, especially, the singularity of the situations that occur on stage, often generating conflicts, favor the appearance of verbal resources indicative of deference, and, more frequently, of forms that despise or attack the image of the interlocutors. Added to this is the essentially playful purpose of the entremeses, which favors the originality of the author, channeled in the creation and multiplication of discourteous forms.

This work presents an analysis of the forms and meanings of the diminutive in Navarre, based on data obtained from several sources: the Vocabulario navarro of Jose Maria Iribarren, the stories included in Narraciones folcloricas navarras and some recent copies of the Diario de Navarra. In addition to underlining one of the differential features of the Spanish in this Autonomous Community, it is intended to show that the preferences for some appreciatives and their frequency of occurrence are related to diverse chronological, geographical, social and situational factors.

In this work the linguistic peculiarities of a collection of theatrical mojigangas are analyzed from a pragmalinguistic perspective. Considering the similarities between theatrical dialogue and conversation, the analysis is based on the Cooperative Principle formulated by Paul Grice for conversational exchanges. The characteristic transgression of the carnival is explained, in the language of these plays, as the systematic non-compliance with the maxims of Quality, Quantity, Relation and Mode, which serves the authors to obtain as an effect the surprise and laughter of the spectator.

The present work aims to analyze, in a group of Quevedo's prose works (those that receive the denomination of burlesque), a resource that the author uses in a recurrent way: the comparative Structures and the intensive consecutive sentences. These sequences are particularly suitable for intensifying and, almost always combined with other verbal and non-verbal strategies, they obtain an immediate humorous effect.

This work reviews the resources used in Calderón de la Barca's dramatic works for the treatment of representatives of authority; that is, it analyzes the presence on stage of what Gonzalo Correas calls "names of honor", for which the protocol of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries imposes very rigorous guidelines. The study is based on a selection of plays involving representatives of political, military and ecclesiastical power, and characters of different rank, sex and age.

This article analyzes the genesis and evolution of two adverbial phrases whose textual life began in the Golden Age Spanish and which show the same structure, that of the so-called irreversible binomials. The diachronic study of the expressions ni por esas ni por esotras y sin ton ni son contributes to the description of their individual history but also provides relevant knowledge of the peculiarities of the binomial category. Dictionaries of several periods comprise information on the meaning and functional use of these units that does not always correspond to the data found in textual sources.

These pages review the historical trajectory of nonada, a quantifier of negative existentiality and noun that became widespread in the Golden Age. In addition to tracing the syntactic-semantic environments that made possible the combination of the adverb no(n) and the indefinites ninguno and nada, the quantitative progression, the grammatical behaviour, the values and the social and textual distribution of the new element nonada are analysed diachronically. As can be seen in CORDI, no(n) nada or no(n)nada (the two representations are used interchangeably) is documented with all its values in the 15th century. Nada and nonada specialise, as nouns, in different meanings, but they always maintain a coinciding margin in employment free and as members of phraseological units. This concurrence is, possibly, what causes nonada, without an exclusive space, to begin an irreversible decline in the second half of the 17th century, which, in any case, hardly finds an echo in lexicographical repertoires. The scarce presence of this element in American Spanish is a testimony to the temporal limitation of its validity.

This article develops a diachronic study of the Latin adverbs maxime and inclusive in Spanish. In addition to chronologically and textually situating their first appearances in our language and verifying their propagation, these pages present the successive manifestations of their values and describe the transition from one to another; in final, their behaviour in Spanish is examined comparatively and in relation to other elements. The historical analysis sample shows that maxime and inclusive do not only share the condition of Latin adverbs. Incorporated discreetly into Spanish in the 15th century, they have transcended diaphasically and diastratically: from formal to informal use, and, although in different proportions for one and the other, from the most educated speakers to users of different socio-cultural levels.
