This paper explains basic ideas of Gonzalo Herranz on research ethics, in general and on human beings, obtained from the study of the fragmentary material that has been preserved (drafts and class outlines). Among other ideas, I present his thoughts on the ethical foundations of the researcher's actions: the target of the researcher, the active and passive duty to investigate, the freedom of research and the peculiarities of the relationship between the researcher and the subject of research/patient.

Informed consent at research is part of the doctor-patient relationship, which has undergone, and continues to undergo, important changes: from the classical approach, as a relationship of friendship, to the contemporary approach, as a relationship between strangers (potential enemies, following thesis enlightened about society), which is regulated by ethical and legal rules. The main goal of the latter is to ensure, by means of formal requirements , that such a relationship does not harm the patient. In this light, we examine and compare informed consent in the main international regulations and in Spanish law. In particular, we focus on the patient information sheet, comprehension, voluntariness, certification and speech of the results of the research. We conclude with the observation of the serious intrinsic limitation of these regulations, which impede, rather than favour, an adequate attention for the patient.

Medicine has existed since time immemorial because illness is part of the essence of man, and because mutual financial aid is an indispensable element of human life in society. It follows from this that those who have a vocation as doctors owe their patients a negative respect (do no harm) and a positive respect (help them in their illness), with skill technique, honesty and integrity. And he or she must provide care in the most humane way possible, which is obligatory in view of the dependent life of the sick person.

The principles of bioethics, coined in the United States at the end of the 1970s and disseminated in our environment a decade later, contain within them a semantic ambiguity, which is analysed in their main lines; this ambiguity oscillates between a relativist meaning and another in accordance with the classical concept of nature; this ambiguity has been transmitted to those who, within the field of Hippocratic medical ethics, have adopted its terminology, which are the vast majority of the medical class . This phenomenon is easily leading to the abandonment of medical ethics based on natural law (the Hippocratic-Christian tradition), leading to a more or less open relativism. To avoid this problem, some solutions are proposed in the field of medical ethics terminology .

The current scientistic vision has, to a large extent, succeeded in disenchanting the world, making the interest and admiration for reality, which are the beginning of the scientific question, disappear. Paradoxically, what is seen as an achievement of science, sample , is holding back its own development. Medicine must do research in order to maintain the best care for patients. However, in order to awaken the vocation of researchers, it is necessary to rekindle the admiration for reality, which drives research. In this article, after a rationale for the phenomenon of wonder at reality, some ideas for teaching at area science that can help to reawaken the interest in research are outlined.
