1st Specialist Course in Sports Law 2021-2023
In 2013, promoted by the CEO of the University of Navarra, the first specialist program in Sports Law was launched, with the financial aid de la School of Law. Since then, more than 300 students have participated with the partnership of professionals, professors and renowned speakers in the field of sports law.
The world of sport is becoming increasingly professional and this requires the presence of specialists who are able to provide the necessary information for the proper functioning of sporting activities. In the case of the legal field, it is vitally important to understand the obligations and responsibilities of the different actors in the sports scenario, to know and interpret the different regulations and their impact on the business of sport, and to master the mechanisms for conflict resolution, among other issues.
The Specialist Course in Sports Law goal aims to broaden and deepen knowledge for students and professionals in the field of law, covering different topics.
YEAR 1
1.- THE SPORT ECOSYSTEM AND ITS STAKEHOLDERS
a) Sport organisation

c) Public administrations (City Councils, Autonomous Communities)
d) Sports facilities: obligations and responsibilities
e) Sponsors, brands, insurance companies, media speech, representation companies.
f) The sportsperson and sports agents.
2.- CONFLICTS IN SPORT
a) Main conflicts between entities and athletes
b) Conflicts between entities
c) The discipline sports: Responsibilities and sanctioning law.
d) Mechanisms for out-of-court dispute resolution in sport.
e) Offences in sport: violence, doping, cheating, non-payment of taxes, etc.
YEAR 2
3.- THE BUSINESS OF SPORT
a) Commercial regulation of the sports business.
b) The financing of sport: sponsorship Image rights, Subsidies, etc.
c) Identification of legal risks and business risks.
d) Taxation and taxation.

4.- SPORT AS A PROFESSION

Aimed at:
- Students of School Law
- University graduates in Law, Business Administration and Management, and Sports Science.
- Sports professionals working in management and sports organisation.
- Ex-athletes who wish to specialise in this field.
- Lawyers working or wishing to work in the area of legal aid sports.
- The course will consist of 40 teaching hours in 20 two-hour sessions on Friday afternoons over two years.
- Students must submit an end-of-course work and complete a final examination, in order to be assessed.
- The course will close with a trip to meet and visit different sports organisations.
- The sessions will be face-to-face and also online, for those who wish to attend and/or live outside Pamplona, with the obligation to attend at least 90% of the sessions at attend.
- The School of Law of the University of Navarra will value the diploma in 3 ECTS credit.
