Casa Misericordia
For more than 300 years, the Casa de Misericordia de Pamplona continues to be a reference in the city in the care of the most disadvantaged. Today, this institution founded in 1706 continues to maintain its basic founding principle: to give priority attention to people with the greatest needs partner-economic born in Pamplona or registered in the capital of Navarre.
For this reason, the Meca, as our center is popularly known, in addition to the donations and aid it has received from the people of Pamplona, has also carried out other tasks during its history to obtain funding to maintain its welfare activity, among which the management of the place de Toros of the city stands out.
Initially, Mecca welcomed both adults and children. The latter were enrolled in school and their training was completed with professional training in workshops where they learned a official document. In 1924 a fire forced to leave the old building of the institution, located in Paseo de Sarasate, and another one was built in the current grounds of the Vuelta del Castillo, which were donated by the Diputación Foral.
Victor Eúsa was the architect of the new headquarters, which was opened in 1932. In 1980, the Casa de Misericordia began to dedicate itself exclusively to the care of the elderly.
