FIVE STUDIOS is the project of 5 dwellings and 5 architectural programs of study located in Wharf Road, London. In a socio-cultural landscape where the threshold between work and staff life is almost non-existent, a relationship is proposed where the coexistence of both elements, a priori opposites, becomes the creative engine of project. Although independent of each other, the negative of the space of the programs of study sculpts the positive of the space of the dwellings, and vice versa. The limits and tensions provoked are not only confined to project, but go beyond it, interacting with frenetic London.

The project seeks to address the construction of a complex consisting of five programs of study and five dwellings in Wharf Road, London. The programs of study is aimed at architecture professionals, but could be suitable for other creative professionals. The building is located in a hinged enclave between "the City" and its northern suburbs. A wide variety of actors converge on this site, creating a subtly chaotic atmosphere. programs of study For this reason, numerous photography, architecture and art galleries coexist in the surrounding areas, including the Victoria Miró gallery.

The statement of five programs of study and five dwellings contains an intrinsic conflict that is at agenda in London: the relationship between work and life staff. Precisely the attraction of the proposal is not only how the conflicts of 5 programs of study and 5 dwellings are resolved, but its extrapolation to the city of London. We understand that this project has an experimental workshop component, where new ways of life are explored, so that in the case of achieving a certain degree of success, it is sensitive to transferring the solution found to other places that are equally or more needy than the one occupied by our project end of Master's Degree. Given this chaotic context, situated in an even more chaotic city, we are of the opinion that the union between work and life staff is necessary for an integral development as a society. However, it is necessary to establish a series of limits between the two, in order to try to avoid the routine that engulfs the individual in an eternal world of work. It will be this tension between work and housing that will be the creative engine of project, which will in turn try to have a positive impact on the immediate urban environment.

On a contextual level, the site is a black hole in the urban fabric of London, even though it is adjacent to the Basin's Canal, as it is occupied by an electric central switchboard . It must be fully decommissioned in order to exploit the potential of the site.

On the other hand, the high-rise construction and massification of skyscrapers in London, a consequence of technological advances and rising land prices, has a huge impact on our plot, as we have three recently built towers to the south of the site, flooding the canal and the site with shade. This is why we decided to rise on an "empty block waiting to be colonised" and reach a sunlight otherwise unattainable.

FIVE STUDIOS aims to provide the habitable urban void that the Basin's Canal needs, as well as the development of a dialogue on two critical London issues that relate to the project: on the one hand to raise possible solutions to the damage that the abundance of towers cause to the urban space, and on the other hand the proposal of reconciliation between the staff and professional spheres to improve the quality of life of Londoners.
