Women's leadership skills: Isabel Carrilero

Eva María Infante Deus, 2nd year student of Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE), presents the second colloquium of the cycle "Leadership skills in feminine". On this occasion, the guest speaker was Isabel Carrilero, director of innovation at IGNIS energy, who stressed the importance of reflecting on our actions both at staff and professionally.

Last Friday 22nd took place at the University of Navarra the second talk of the cycle Leadership Skills for Women. After the inauguration, which included the testimony of María Beunza, partner of Happeninn, we invited Isabel Carrilero, director of innovation at IGNIS energy and collaborator of the initiative Science in Parliament, under the degree scroll"Charging the battery with energy".

It was, undoubtedly, a talk somewhat out of the ordinary both for the active participation of the audience and also for the character of staff of meeting. From the very beginning, Carrilero showed us his curious attitude towards life and did not fail to give us advice from experience, especially from bad experiences.

At the beginning of his speech, Carrilero emphasized that there were big catastrophes that help you grow. He recalled the moment when he decided not to rush things during his rushed programs of study from Chemistry or when he realized that life can turn your plans around unexpectedly. He told us about the need to relativizeof not demanding things of oneself that are not necessary and of the importance of know how to order financial aid. Issues he learned in his twenties after a stay in France.

He invited us to think about the importance of working on something we like, to surround ourselves with people who open our eyes and to know how to control our own ego. She stressed the idea of working conscientiously, of doing things well and not forgetting that there are efforts that have result, in her case: leading an innovation project around green hydrogen. In short, Isabel Carrilero closed her discussion paper stressing the importance of asking ourselves why we do things

Both my generation and the previous one ask themselves this question almost automatically and naturally. When I think about what I want to do, or when a friend talks to me about her future, we do so thinking about what we want to change, what we can improve, what we can implement, what are our dreams for the world that remains for us. We always think about the ideals or values that we want to materialize throughout our professional careers. However, we rarely stop to think about what we have to do along the way. We see more or less clearly the work involvement, but we do not always stop to think about how we are going to live, how we want to manage our lives and why we want to do it in a certain way.

Some of the lessons I keep in mind are the importance of knowing how to find a balance between your life staff and your professional life and knowing how to surround yourself with people who allow you to open your eyes and your mind. I think about these issues with special attention because of the circumstances in which I believe my generation and those to come will live. Not only because the spaces and times of work will become increasingly liquid and private spaces more permeable, but also because we are moving towards societies that are looking for more specialized and transversal profiles that require constant preparation and self-improvement.

To this we must add that family reconciliation, increasingly, not only includes the care of children but also that of the parents themselves, especially when families are small. In this sense, I think it is essential to know how to make a good balance of priorities and needs when planning life and also to keep in mind that, as Carrilero says: "It is not so much the things that happen to you but also how you manage them". Knowing that from time to time you have to slow down and think about what you want to spend your time on and ask yourself what makes you really happy. For that, to have people by your side who are able to point out those things where we are wrong and to discover new opportunities and projects. And, of course, to have the goal to become one of those people and help those we can along the way.
