On Monday 4 April, Professor Wei Shen and his co-author Frangton Chiyemura presented their article"China's Engagement with Africa's renewable energy market: from a perspective of dynamic institutional engagement". In it they describe the Chinese and African perspective of clean energy projects carried out by Chinese companies (mainly state-owned enterprises) in African countries in the context of the New Silk Road.

Professor Gong, from Yunnan University of Finance and Economics presented on March 16th his working paper "Two Stages of Development". He provided a macro theory on economic development where labor supply plays a key role in switching from one economic development stage to another. Independent R&D investment was also key in explaining further economic development and preventing the middle-income trap.

Last Wednesday, on January 19th 2022, Professor Shang-Jin Wei presented his ongoing research on an evaluation on Chinese largest Innovation Program. His research evaluates China’s InnoCom subsidy program, which was launched in 2008. He showed, with his coauthors, that the program led to welfare losses, suggesting either a new policy in the allocation mechanism of subsidies, or its removal.

On Wednesday 19 January 2022 Professor Shang-Jin Wei presented his research evaluating China's largest innovation programme to date. Specifically, the article analyses China's InnoCom subsidy programme, which was launched in 2008. Together with his co-authors, Shang-Jin Wei sample how the programme has generated losses and suggests, as a response, a change in the subsidy allocation policy or the elimination of the programme.

roundtable . "Africa: exploring the future by looking at China".
China has been investing in Africa for several years now. This November, on the 23rd, we will be holding a roundtable where we will talk about Chinese investments in Africa, as well as the opportunities that this continent offers for investment. Our president, Pedro Nueno, will moderate the table where he will talk with Juliet and Nana, directors of two Chinese companies based in Africa.
The event will take place at the headquarters of the University of Navarra in Madrid. Due to restrictions imposed by the COVID, seating will be limited. If you would like to participate in the event, please send an email to corechina@unav.es. In any case, the event will be broadcast online.
