Pedestal in homage to Gaius Caesar (3-4 AD)

Parallelepipedic block, made of granite, corresponding to the pedestal front, as indicated by two holes on the upper face, probably intended to be used as a grammage. The previous face contains an honorific text: a dedication of the city of Igeditanos to Gaio César (20 B.C. - 4 A.D.), net and, from 17 B.C., adopted son of Augustus - he is the firstborn of framework Vipsânio Agripa and Júlia, only daughter of the emperor. It is a collective dedication of the local community, which in this epigraph officially registers its designation of civitas Igaedit(orum). The adoption of Gaius Caesar, as well as that of his son Lucius, aimed at the succession of Augustus, but both would die before the emperor himself: in 4 and 2 A.D., respectively. It is found in the Epigraphic Archive of Idanha-a-Velha.
