The Contemporary Parnassus: Antonio Machado on International Book Day

Episode 3 - Antonio Machado:

After the romantic gaze of Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, we bring the ninety-something voice of Antonio Machado to celebrate International Book Day. We discover a life in verse, the identity of a rural and traditional Spain that is becoming a Machadian world.

Machado's life and work was marked by a period of creative weariness produced by political discontent, initially caused by the Restoration of Cánovas, which finally exploded with the loss of the last Spanish colonies in 1898, in the so-called Disaster of '98.

It was the discouragement caused by the disaster that led the authors to acquire the critical thinking that was so characteristic of the generation and which led them to detach themselves from Modernism to show their concern for the future of the nation and to evoke the values, traditions and identity of Spain.

In this episode we have the great narrating voice of Edu Muñoz, student del Degree from Philology We hope you enjoy this poetic universe as much as we do! Happy International Book Day!
