The Chair Madera ONESTA develops projects of research, thesis doctoral and programs of study in the field of wood through projects of research with public funding, or contracts with companies in the sector.

The main lines of research focus on the design structural timber, in particular on the application of new concepts and constructive developments, with special emphasis on the design of structural joints. For this purpose, diverse tasks are carried out, ranging from experimental tests to the development of analytical and numerical models for joints, with a special interest in the understanding of the different fracture mechanisms of wood. The final goal of the research is always to arrive at practical applications of the knowledge developed, which usually results in proposals for the modification and improvement of structural regulations. 

The members of the Chair Madera Onesta actively collaborate in the development of the future Eurocode 5, the structural rule for the design of Structures timber in Europe. Some of their proposals are included in the current draft of the future rule. In addition, Professor Cabrero is the Spanish representative in the group of work of Eurocode 5 (TC250 / SC5 / WG5), and collaborates in other committees and actions related to the development normative.
