The department Community and Maternal and Child Nursing originated in the early 2000s.

The past, present and future pillars of the department Community and Maternal and Child Nursing are based on Health Promotion and Education. Hence, both teaching and research, as well as national and international collaborations of department have positive health, Health Promotion and Health Education as their philosophical basis.

In relation to the people who make up the department it should be pointed out that it has structural professors, guest professors and staff researcher in training. The structural professors are involved in teaching, research and management. The collaborating lecturers are guest lecturers with extensive clinical experience who collaborate with department in both theoretical and practical teaching. Staff researcher trainees devote most of their time to research work, while collaborating in the practical teaching of department.

Organization

The department of Community and Maternal-Child Nursing of the School of Nursing of the University of Navarra is organized in four areas that integrate teaching and research, with an approach in the integral care of individuals, families and communities.

- In Mental Health, we deepen our understanding of psychosocial needs, promoting healthy lifestyles and approaches focused on integral wellbeing.

- The Community Nursingarea is oriented to health promotion from a positive perspective, considering values, traditions and beliefs of the population. Interventions are designed to strengthen self-care and improve the quality of life of individuals and communities.

- In healthmanagement , training focuses on analyzing the social, economic and organizational factors that influence health care. It promotes the understanding of health systems and policies, as well as the development of leadership competencies and interprofessional work .

- Finally, the Maternal and Child area addresses the care of women, children and families throughout the life cycle, promoting safe and evidence-based practices. Priority is given to the promotion of maternal and child health, the prevention of complications and the consolidation of emotional bonds, training professionals who are sensitive and committed to the continuous improvement of family and community health.
