The "Passion for Science" award recognizes the professional career of scientists and researchers in the different branches of knowledge. In the 2025 edition, the winner was Sara García Alonso.
Sara García Alonso (León, 1989) has a degree in Biotechnology (2012) and a Master's Degree in Biomedical research (2013) from the University of León, and in 2018 she received her PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Salamanca. García Alonso has worked for the Spanish National Research committee (CSIC) doing research on oncological medicine and also at the Spanish National Cancer Research Center (CNIO) leading a project on experimental oncology and drug finding . In 2022 Sara will be appointed as a member of the Astronaut reservation of the European Space Agency (ESA).
The León scientist has been awarded several prizes and distinctions, such as the award Ada Byron Joven 2023, the Silver Medal of the Community of Madrid and Hija Predilecta de León (Favorite Daughter of León), among others.
