"Great companies are made by great people"

Pedro García-Cano Salgado, CEO of WTC and former consultant at Accenture, shared a strategic vision on the centrality of people in organizations.

His background, ranging from civil engineering to leadership in human resources marketing, allowed him to offer a valuable perspective to the Master's Degree students. His session stood out for providing tools and core topic reflections on building strong organizational cultures, exceptional teams and effective leadership, fundamental topics for those who aspire to lead human talent. In summary, the concepts he conveyed are the following:

García-Cano emphasized the essential role of people with a core topic message: successful companies are built with extraordinary people. He criticized the disconnect between speech and talent management practices in many organizations and encouraged looking beyond technical skills, focusing on employees' core values and beliefs.

In the second written request spoke about culture as a strategic advantage, defining the cultural framework as a combination of purpose, values and operations that guide companies towards success. On this point he stressed the importance of aligning the beliefs of employees with those of the organization to form cohesive teams, highlighting the search for a "perfect match" as an essential aspect of talent management .

The third concept is that communication must be employee as a pillar of credibility. In his analysis, he stressed that effective communication does not depend on its frequency, but on its relevance and consistency, proposing strategies such as direct dialogue and transparency to strengthen trust. He also pointed out that lack of consistency, especially from middle management, can undermine the credibility of the organization.

A final point mentioned by García-Cano is flexible and empathetic leadership: leadership must be emotionally intelligent, flexible and adaptive. The speaker explained that there is no single valid leadership style, and stressed the importance of adjusting to the changing needs of people and the environment to foster theirstaff and professional development .

To condense these insights, García-Cano left three fundamental teachings: legendary teams are the basis of great organizations, an authentic and coherent story strengthens the connection between people and companies, and integral leadership is the core topic for adapting to a dynamic world. He closed his speech by inviting us to reflect on the impact of these ideas and recommending the reading of Nexus by Yuval Noah Harari as a complement to his vision.
