Yesterday, we held another session of “My Experience” at the University of Navarra, featuring a visit L’Oréal’s Talent Acquisition team. It was a very interesting discussion about how a global company views talent and development today.
L’Oréal, a global leader in the beauty industry, has more than 37 global brands, a presence in over 150 countries, and approximately 90,000 employees. However, beyond the numbers, what really caught my attention was the company’s approach people and career development.
During the session, they explained how their Talent Acquisition Team operates, whose goal attract and develop diverse talent to continue positioning L’Oréal as a Beauty Tech Company. The team is not only responsible for recruiting but also acts as partner to the business, anticipating the skills the organization will need in the future and building pipelines of future leaders.
One of the ideas I liked best was his take on recruiting:
“We don’t recruit for a position; we recruit for a degree program.”
In this regard, the talent process is viewed as a long-term employee journey, in which development and mobility the organization play a core topic role. They also emphasized the importance of identifying individuals who are curious, proactive, and eager to learn, rather than adhering to a profile .
Another interesting point was learning about the various entrance points entrance the company for students and young professionals, such as L’Oréal Brandstorm, internships, apprenticeships, and the international VIE program, which allow participants to build a degree program within the group.
In addition, special emphasis was placed on the role of diversity and inclusion in recruitment processes, as well as on the need to reduce unconscious biases in order to attract diverse talent.
In the end, one thing is very clear to me: today, organizations compete not only on the basis of products or innovation, but also on their ability to attract, develop, and retain talent.
Many thanks to the L’Oréal team for sharing their experience and giving us insight into how talent is managed at a global company.
