The project arises from the study and analysis of the Ciudad Lineal planned by Arturo Soria. Once the plots and micro-plots had been analysed, I thought it appropriate to use their rectangular shape with the goal to culminate the Ciudad Lineal at place de los Misterios, this being of course a gesture of report towards the architect.
The box will be turned around, with its back to Arturo Soria street, to form a kind of visual barrier towards the street. The project foresees the possibility of multiple programmes such as art galleries, workshops, exhibition halls, museums, coworking spaces, conferences and fashion shows.
The dimensions of the pier are 20 m wide and 65 m long. It rises 3 metres above the ground, supported by the two large reinforced concrete communication cores, from which the steel structure that will support the floor slabs and the enclosures will be hung.
It will have three floors, which have the possibility of adapting to the different proposals and needs of use. The third floor will be reduced in size to create a glass box on the flight facing the intersection of Calles de Alcalá and Arturo Soria, which will act as a lighthouse / hinge / spatial hinge between them, while allowing the viewer to see the events taking place on the second floor.
The project proposes to respond to an area of meeting, so that the place and the public space under the building function as the great anteroom to the activities that take place inside.
It is a floating glass box which, on the one hand, when elevated, will give a sensation of lightness and, on the other hand, will generate a feeling of compression with respect to Username. Lightness is of great importance in project, as it is a clear and enlightening reflection of today's western society. The human being is in search of lightness in all aspects of life and, through sublime lights and light forms, seeks to find a logical happiness.
Nowadays, to seek peace is to seek levitation, to elevate the spirit, without the intervention of physical agents that could interrupt or corrupt this state of peace. The transparency and lightness of project conveys this sense of peace, and consolidates the idea of immateriality through its glass skins. It is a structure so light that it overcomes the forces of gravity and rises into the air, resembling a cloud.
