The industrial heritage present in our national landscape, generally obsolete today, has a historical and contextual relevance that deserves to endure in time as something more than mere ruins. This project proposes to address a particular case to serve as an example of revaluation, rehabilitation and reuse of old industrial buildings with coherence, respect and for the benefit of society.

The farm as boundary and pedestal. The imposing presence of a disused grain silo, a building of great massiveness and monumental character, makes the site of project a unique place. Therefore, the proposed intervention aims to enhance the existing construction through an architecture that complements it and contributes to its contextualization as a landmark in the landscape and part of history. 

This minimalist character that is intended to be given to the new work, together with the agro-livestock approach of its program, makes it coherent to use the slope of the land to the south to project the architecture itself as an enclosure for livestock. The roof is flush with the ground level of the silo and the livestock and residential spaces are developed underneath it, following a specific distribution that supports the visitable route generated, intentionally, on the perimeter of the enclosure. 

The intention of enhancing the value of the silo promotes an intervention that minimizes its impact, so its conceptualization is limited to what is constructively necessary, always seeking to emphasize the principles of landmark, enclosure and route. Therefore, the process consists of making some slight excavations, on which walls are built to form the perimeter, and support the wooden beams that modulate the Building, with differential enclosures according to the facade subject , and culminated, all this, with a set of green roofs that make up the unit and insert the whole in the environment. 

Touring the silo. Recalling the intention of dialogue between the new and the existing architecture, and seeking a formal and visual balance between both parts, the principle of enclosure and perimeter route used in the place is used to design the spaces inside the silo. The peculiarity of this construction encourages the insertion of informative spaces in it, in order to show the grandeur and the previous operation of the building. The uses are distributed on wooden platforms, supported on open holes in the concrete walls and whose circulation is always perimeter. In addition, both the monumentality and the concept of the route are emphasized by connecting all the habitable floors by means of a system of peripheral ramps.

Constructive essentiality as architecture itself. A material characterization based on the essential is projected, minimizing the elements to those that reflect the utility in itself, and showing the material purity. 

The construction is limited to the use of four raw materials with differentiated functions, whose treatment is adapted to the requirements of each space subject , and promotes the duality between facades open to the interior place and facades closed to the exterior boundary. Limestone as support and programmatic division, as a differentiated, massive and opaque boundary. Glued laminated timber as horizontal support and modulation element. The wood and glass carpentry as vertical enclosure, modular as appropriate. And, the green roof as a finishing touch to the whole, for its climate protection properties, and its contribution to minimize the visual impact of the whole. 

The crudeness of the material promotes a project that promotes coherence and sustainability, low environmental impact and the possibility of circularity. It proposes to recover previous constructive techniques to combine them with the structural and constructive technology that we have today.
