Épitaphe d'un Nicomédien (201-250 p.C.)

Fragmented cyppe, which has lost its crown and its base. It marked the location of the cinereal urn of a person originally from Nicomedie, capital of the Bithynie in Asia Minor. He was one of many foreign merchants who had worked at the port of Burdigala. He died at the age of 40. The fragmentation of the monument prevents us from knowing his identity. On connaît cependant celle de son épouse et dédicante, Valeria Secundina, une citoyenne romaine dont les noms sont fréquents en Aquitaine, dont elle était probablement originaire. Like most of the Bordeaux inscriptions, this cippe was reused in the wall of the end of the IIIrd century, where it was found in the XIXth century at 99th century in Alsace-et-Lorraine.
