Temple of Venus inscription (71-100 AD)

Architectural block of granite, incomplete, conserving vestiges of moldings in cima and in the bottom. It preserves part of an inscription that documents the offer of a temple dedicated to Venus by Gaio Câncio Modestino. The munificent action of this notorious local citizen extends, in addition, to the construction of another temple dedicated to Mars. Both temples could have integrated the city's forum. The same individual, whose fortune could be related to the exploration of metallic mining resources, also offered to the civitas located in Bobadela (Oliveira do Hospital) two other temples, dedicated to Vitória and to the Genius of the Municipality, according to similar inscriptions existing in the nearby locality of Couto de Midões. It is datable, as the remaining epigraphs, from the end of the Ist century. It is found in the Epigraphic Archive of Idanha-a-Velha.
