Club Start

Throughout the academic year , a group four students from Degree Biochemistry Degree Biochemistry to discuss the functioning of biotechnology companies in Spain and bioentrepreneurship.

After months of talking, we decided it was time to meet the staff companies in the biotech sector in Pamplona in person. First, we visit Dr. Ricardo Palacios, director business development the business BionanoplusAt CEIN, he spoke to us about the lengthy process involved in bringing a new drug to market. Secondly, we met with Mr. Ángel Mª Galán, director and Human Resources director of 3PBiopharmaceuticalsThe conversation focused on the costly industrial processes required to begin generating products for the sector, such as recombinant proteins. And finally, we met with a bioentrepreneur, Carlos Gonzalez, director Ojer PharmaCarlos spoke to us about the importance of being persistent when it comes to achieving our goals and, in this way, being able to start a business

After reaching this point, we realized how useful these conversations were for our professional lives. Therefore, after speaking with various people at the university, such as Dr. Ignacio Goñi, Dr. Borja Mora-Figueroa, Dr. Fernando Corrales, Mr. Pablo Martín, Ms. Cristina Martínez, and Ms. Sara Equiza, we decided that it was time to launch a Biotechnology and business Club business CBE) at the University of Navarra.

In the 2014/2015 academic year Daniel Vaillo y Alfonso Barrios joined the founding team and began contacting professionals in the sector to introduce the members of the Club to the business world in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical fields. The goal is bringing speakers to share their experience in the world of work in order to help the process and the training staff of the students.

It should be noted that the choice of speakers and companies is left to the students, so that not only is creativity and individual participation sought from the members, but also proactivity in getting together and holding small debates, sessions in which new ideas are born and mutual support is subsequently provided to carry them out. One of the speakers who attended these conferences was Julio Maset, from Laboratorios CINFA.

academic year 2015/2016 began with a call via email to all students of the School of Sciences and the School of Pharmacy and Nutrition who were interested in the world of business and in learning more about the CBE-UNAV. This first meeting was led by the new directors of the club; Ana Domínguez Pérez y Marta López de Calle.

In November 2015, we had a visit CBE from Nora Alonso, founder of Iden Biotechnology. During the session, she told us how she started her project, the difficulties she encountered, etc. In thiscolloquium the opportunity to ask her numerous questions that resolved some of our business concerns. After Christmas, we began meeting approximately once a month to discuss the progress of the club and future projects.

During the club's fourth year, directors José María García-Pumarino and Eduardo Camina Paniagua realized the need to give the club a fixed structure in order to carry out a minimum number of activities each year. This was done without eliminating the dynamic nature of the club, where any member can propose new activities to be added to the CBE calendar.

From March 14 to 16, 2017, the Biotechnology and business Club business the "First workshop for Students." It was structured around threecolloquium three scientists who had launched their own business: Roberto Díaz (CEO of Zebrafish Lab), Javier Campión (CEO of Making Genetics), and Dámaso Molero (CEO of 3P Biopharmaceuticals).
