The“ project ” project aims goal to develop and demonstrate an innovative biotechnology platform capable of converting acetate-rich industrial streams into high-value ingredients through fermentation and cascade valorization processes. These include bioactive ingredients such as prebiotics, probiotics, synbiotics, and postbiotics, with potential applications in food and health. At the framework of the project, the partners will work together to optimize and scale up production processes, characterize the obtained ingredients, and evaluate their functionality and safety. They will also validate their suitability for food applications and analyze the technical and economic feasibility of the processes, as well as their commercialization potential.
To achieve these objectives, CENER, coordinator of the project, is responsible for scaling up the fermentation process, the downstream processing of bioproducts, and the concentration of the subject , as well as for the programs of study techno-economic and life-cycle analyses; Ecovinal manages the supply, characterization, and conditioning of the raw subject ; the Nutrition research center at the University of Navarra is manager for the validation of probiotics for health applications; Van Hall Larenstein (VHL) carries out the validation and production of two or three prototypes suitable for food use; and ACTALIA is responsible for the transcript regarding product safety and shelf life.
C2BIOTICS is funded under the " framework " category of the first call for proposals under the European Circular Innovation Valleys (ECIV) initiative, with financial support from the European Union and regional co-funding from the Normandy Region (France), the Northern Netherlands Regional Alliance, and the Government of Navarre (Spain).
Consortium: CENER (Navarre, ES), ECOVINAL (Navarre, ES), research center e of Nutrition (Navarre, ES), ACTALIA (Normandy, FR), Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences (Northern Netherlands, NL).
