INTAngibles of CARE
Intangible Aspects of Person- and Family-Centered Care in Serious Illness. Anthropological and Ethical Foundations: core topic Concepts for Palliative Care Professionals.
This project focuses on the study of the“intangibles of care”in the field of palliative care, understood as those relational, ethical, and existential dimensions—such as presence, trust, non- withdrawal , and truthful and compassionate communication—that shape person- and family-centered care in situations of serious illness.
These elements are not only essential for excellent care, but they also provide a unique pathway to understanding and strengthening the concept of “ work ” in palliative care by linking clinical “ internship ” with dimensions of meaning, “ purpose ,” and human recognition. Although these elements are recognized as essential for excellent care, they remain poorly conceptualized and operationalized and are rarely integrated systematically into theoretical, educational, and training frameworks.
