A new space for the promotion of the training of the students of various Schools, the research multidisciplinary and applied science of the Institute for Biodiversity and Environment and scientific knowledge dissemination , through a pioneering programme of activities and exhibition of the Museum's collection. The BIOMA Centre is a very relevant project within the 'Strategy 2025: University and Sustainability'. We aspire to promote solidarity between generations, the knowledge of the natural heritage, the research in the environment, and the social value of scientific knowledge dissemination for the care of the environment and society.
Purposes of the future BIOMA Centre

Research into biodiversity and the environment, studying in an interdisciplinary way to provide innovative solutions to the major challenges facing our society today.

Science popularisation. Science is very attractive but complex, so it needs to be transmitted correctly and truthfully. The extraordinary collection of natural sciences and the life of the new exhibition space will create an ideal environment for learning about science in a fun and entertaining way.

The training of new generations who, knowing the natural heritage, are able to preserve this legacy and provide lasting solutions to the problems of our planet in a responsible and creative way.
The Sustainable Development Goals development (SDGs), set out by the UN in 2015, are today's measure of innovation and social impact.
The SDGs, adopted globally, chart the way forward to end poverty, protect the planet and work towards peace and prosperity for people.
The BIOMA Centre wants to contribute especially to the goals Education on Quality, Industry and Innovation, Sustainable Cities, Climate Action, Life of Terrestrial Ecosystems, Peace, Justice and Solid Institutions, and Partnerships to Achieve the Goals.
Initiatives planned to contribute to the objectives:
- Sustainable construction.
- Research in Biodiversity and the Environment.
- Social transfer of research through publications, reports, patents, start-ups or contracts with companies.
- Advice or preparation of reports for public institutions.
- Monitoring the effects of climate change and human impact on the environment. Publication of results for knowledge and raising awareness in society.
- Comprehensive learning of the whole student body through quality teaching.
- Education that seeks to reduce inequalities and contributes to training and increasing the scientific culture of citizens.
- Courses and other educational resources available online for the whole of society.
- Organisation of exhibitions of the natural science collection, programming of educational and citizen participation activities.
- Place of public, free and international discussion.
