A new building,
more university
The BIOMA Center the University with new spaces and facilities dedicated to teaching research. It also represents an opportunity to connect with the city through the activities of the University of Navarra Science Museum.
The Sciences Building "Hexagon Building), designed by Carlos Sobrini, was completed in 1970. Behind it were two other buildings: the current Research Building (the university's first building, constructed in 1958) and the "Los Castaños"building (built in 1963).
From the outset, these three spaces were shared by the Schools Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Nutrition, and Sciences. Teaching and research needs research to the construction of a new building in 1990, the Science Library expanded in 1997), which allowed for the addition of classrooms and laboratories.
The increase in academic programs research activity in recent decades has led to a significant increase in issue students, teachers, and researchers, as well as the demand for new spaces for teaching , internship research.
Currently, the area has 1.23 m² of classroom space per student , compared to 1.90 m² in area Humanities Social Sciences area .

Science Education
One of the cornerstones of the School Sciences mission statement is the University of Navarra Science Museum. Its collections are the result of decades of research into biodiversity, management , and the environment. It has nearly one million museum records of animals (invertebrates, arthropods, mollusks, fish, birds, reptiles, mammals, etc.), plants, fossils, and minerals, belonging to more than ten thousand different species.
Its activity aims to improve and expand the quality of Education and environmental Education at all educational levels and to generate STEM vocations.

In addition, the following organizations support and collaborate with the activities of the Science Museum: ACUNSA Health Insurance, FECYT Innovation, Caja Navarra Foundation, LILLY Foundation, SACYR Foundation, and Laboral Kutxa.
And they support the research Biodiversity and Environment Institute: Fundación Sanitas and Campus .
The building: energy efficiency and design
The building is expected to contribute to the environment by producing energy in a sustainable manner and having nearly zero energy consumption (NZEB), seeking to harmonize the employment natural resources and contribute to the sustainability of the planet. The planned strategy is based on the construction of a highly efficient thermal envelope that limits the building's energy needs and the employment renewable energies:
- Harnessing the sun's energy by capturing solar energy with photovoltaic panels.
- Utilization of air energy through high-efficiency aerothermal equipment: this reduces total energy consumption and minimizes maintenance through highly efficient air conditioning, combining complementary systems.
The general lighting of the building will be designed using LED technology and a control system using presence detectors and natural light intensity in the different spaces, where savings compared to ordinary consumption are estimated at 50%.

The design stands out for two main spaces:
The agora, designed as an indoor place , organizes the flow of the building and distributes the teaching spaces, laboratories, and other research facilities. This large atrium includes suspended staircases, which will act as bridges connecting the different levels and rest areas. It will also house the University of Navarra's Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (Innovation Factory) and a meeting point for students, with views of campus surroundings campus the Shrine of Our Lady of Fair Love .
The building will have a chapel the leave floor.
The geode, the exhibition centerpiece of the Science Museum, is conceived as a large "gem" excavated from the landscape. Its interior revolves around a central space 16 meters high, surrounded by ramps and platforms that will house exhibitions. This route allows visitors to stop and observe the exhibits along the way. The main space covers 780 m², complemented by five ramp rooms covering 530 m².
