PROJECT BIOGREENFOOD

The department will participate in the project BIOGREENFOOD. From this year until 2027, the department of Microbiology and Parasitology will participate in the project of research BIOGREENFOOD, focused on obtaining new ingredients and bioactive compounds from legumes and vegetable by-products. To this end, this project will employ bioprocesses that allow the development of healthy foods with high organoleptic acceptability based on the circular Economics .

EMERGENTcy: Diagnosis, elimination and prevention of antibiotics and other emerging contaminants, resistant bacteria and antibiotic resistance genes in the urban water cycle of the POCTEFA territory.

The project has as goal to diagnose the presence of emerging contaminants (EC) of interest such as antibiotics, resistant bacteria, antibiotic resistance genes and other pharmaceuticals in the urban water cycle of the POCTEFA territory. It also aims to develop technologies that eliminate these contaminants and raise public awareness of the problem of antimicrobial resistance. Finally, the need for legislation to regulate the discharge of emerging pollutants will be assessed. 

The project EMERGENTcy is 65% co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg VI-A Spain-France-Andorra Program (POCTEFA 2021-2027). The goal of POCTEFA is to reinforce the economic and social integration of the Spain-France-Andorra border area.
