A course combining theoretical classes with cultural outings
Since 1990, School of Architecture has organized the course "Drawing Architecture in Spain" every summer. This course, which traditionally toured the most emblematic monumental sites in Spain, has been transformed into an intensive three-week course that starts in the North of Spain, combining theoretical classes on Art History and Architecture taught at School of Architecture of the University of Navarra with cultural outings in which the methodology of fast drawing is developed.
From the second week onwards, the course moves to Madrid, where the theoretical classes will take place at the postgraduate headquarters of the University of Navarra and the cultural outings will take place in the capital and its surroundings. It is a summer course that has as goal complement the training of architects with specific knowledge of Spanish Architecture and Art.
This is an introductory course and knowledge of the Spanish design based on the most notable monuments in Spain, focusing mainly on cathedrals, courtyards, gardens and squares, as well as twentieth century and contemporary architecture. In this way, the monuments visited fall within a wide range of historical periods, so that the main and best artistic and architectural traditions of Spain are reviewed in a comprehensive manner.
METHODOLOGY PROFESSOR
It combines theory classes at classroom with cultural outings to museums and historical buildings of interest located in the vicinity of Madrid and Pamplona.
The summer program is aimed specifically at architecture students, with a special and simple method: it is done entirely by drawing (with special permissions in the great monuments), in quick sketches and notes; composing a notebook of stay and travel. The drawing staff makes it easy to memorize peculiar features; and it is those essences that will permeate the task of a future designer.
On the other hand, the theoretical classes in situ and at classroom, as well as the personalized attention provide the student with an orienting financial aid close to their reality that favors interactivity and participation.
Who is the course for?
Architects, architecture students, both from Spanish and foreign universities. Anyone interested in learning about historical, modern and contemporary Spanish architecture from accredited professors, within the European cultural context.
