Revitalizing rural heritage
A program promoted by the University of Navarra for the local development through research, training and paid internships for students.

What does the program consist of?
This is a project dedicated to the sustainabledevelopment and economicdevelopment of the most vulnerable rural areas in Navarre. The main component of the project involves university students completing internships at public or private organizations located in rural areas of the Autonomous Community of Navarre.
Building on this firsthand experience in the region, the project complemented by a line of research on the phenomenon of depopulation and strategies for revitalizing the most vulnerable areas, as well as training knowledge dissemination initiatives aimed at both the academic community and society at large, highlighting the richness and potential of rural areas.

PROGRAM PROMOTED AND SPONSORED BY
The program is structured around a broad, multidisciplinary concept multidisciplinary heritage, focusing its efforts on four key areas

NATURAL HERITAGE
Projects that seek the preservation, improvement and sustainable use of natural ecosystems.

CULTURAL HERITAGE
Projects that pursue the rescue and conservation of artistic assets and intangible heritage, in order to disseminate them among neighbors and visitors to the area and make them a local revitalization tool and development .
ECONOMIC HERITAGE
Projects aimed at supporting and strengthening local businesses and small enterprises to boost Economics growth.

SOCIAL HERITAGE
Projects designed to care for people, particularly the most vulnerable rural inhabitants.
Companies or institutions
All those that are located in areas at risk of depopulation (see map below) and that can offer a internship: tasks, supervision, development of competences... can participate.
PRESENTATION OF OFFERS
The presentation offers by entities interested in hosting students is open from January 20, 2026, until June 1, 2026, or until the program closes, if the available funds are exhausted.
Interested companies or institutions should fill out this form form. Before filling it out, it is recommended to read the internship requirements below. Once the form has been completed, the University's Internship Service and employment will contact contact with the business or institution to assess whether it is possible to participate in the program and to finalize the details of the internship.
AWARDING OF INTERNSHIPS
Offers that meet all conditions will be made available to University students on the employment Portal from March 1, 2026.
Before the Easter vacations, the first batch of internships will be announced and, from then on, they will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until fill in the issue total number of places offered or until the budget allocated for scholarships is used up.
University students
The internship program is open to students of Degree, Master's Degree and doctorate of any School or school of the University of Navarra.
WHAT DOES THE PROGRAMME CONSIST OF?
These are paid internships (900 €/month), so that the students who carry them out can cover the costs of their stay, food and/or travel expenses derived from this activity.
The offers for the new 2026 editionwill be published on the employment Portal starting March 1 ( in the section internships for students" section , type the word "heritage" in the search engine they will all appear).
In this academic year 2025-2026, the issue students who will be able to do internships will be around 40. We recommend reading the conditions and allocation of internships set out below.
In the 2024-2025 academic year, 56 students completed internships.

Internships will last between one and three months at the most and must always be face-to-face.

They will take place at any public or private organization in Navarre.

Preference for inclusion in the program will be given to internships that allow candidates to reside in the local ity for the duration of the internship.

Likewise, an adequate distribution of scholarships among the University's centers and among the municipalities of Navarre will be ensured.

The same student may only participate in one internship in each edition of the program. Students who have already benefited from this program in previous editions may participate again, but may not do so again in the same business or entity.

The offer of the internship can only be included in the program if the tasks and competencies detailed are related to the student's Degree. These are formative internships.
Where can I do my internship?
The program will be developed in public or private entities in some of the municipalities of Navarra considered at risk of depopulation by the department of Territorial Cohesion of the Government of Navarra. These total 194 municipal entities and comprise more than 70% of the surface area of the region and around one fifth of its population.
