"Who were the Vascones: an answer - and many questions - from ancient sources?"
Javier Andreuprofessor of Ancient History and Archaeology at the School of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Navarra gave last Friday, January 23 the lecture: "Who were the Vascones: an answer -and many questions- from the ancient sources". The event was organized by the Chair of language and Basque Culture.
Andreu reviewed the clichés about the image of the Vascones, from ancient sources, and presented questions currently on discussion as a result of the research: the ethnic character or not of this "people" of Antiquity, the language they spoke, their attitude towards Rome, etc.
In addition, the literary and epigraphic sources that inform about this attractive group of Roman and pre-Roman antiquity in the Iberian Peninsula were presented and commented in detail.
The session was also the fourth session of the Archaeology Club of the University of Navarra.
