research linguistic
Ana Echaide, Professor of General Linguistics, set up both the teaching Basque linguistics for students at Philology and the research in this field, which followed two main lines of work . The first, related to the collection and study of dialectal varieties of Navarre, began with a large corpus of linguistic surveys carried out according to a questionnaire prepared by Koldo Mitxelena. The materials collected were published by Eusko Ikaskuntza in 1989. The project would be followed by the subsequent work fieldwork and transcription of the surveys carried out in ten localities in Navarre - Abaurregaina/Abaurrea Alta, Alkotz, Arbizu, Jaurrieta, Etxaleku, Eugi, Mezkiritz, Urdiain, Zilbeti and Zugarramurdi - for the purposes of the Linguistic Atlas undertaken by Euskaltzaindia. The second line of research was, in turn, the one that was opened after his doctoral thesis on "languages at contact".
The programs of study related to the Basque language had continuity, in turn, with the Basque philologist, Asier Barandiaranwhose contributions under Chair focused on bertsolaritza, oral literature and journalism in Basque.
