Activities with universities
The America Forum promotes teaching activities between the University of Navarra and the Latin American schools that are members of the Forum. The aim is to promote the exchange cultural and knowledge exchange between schools of architecture and to jointly find possible solutions to future challenges in the different countries.
This is achieved by:
01
COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning)
Through which collaborative exercises will be carried out between the University of Navarra and the members of the Forum to respond to the architectural needs of each reality and enhance the learning process of student body.
COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning)
The following collaborative exercises have been carried out, in which students from the School of Architecture virtually with international students to work on proposals for rehabilitation in areas affected by natural disasters.

DEPOPULATION
Monterrei, Galicia
The issue of depopulation concerns all institutions, including universities. For this reason, the University of Navarra, in partnership the RIA Foundation, has carried out a project during the 2024-2025 academic year) focused on the revitalization and sustainability of rural areas. The project carried out in partnership eight universities from seven different countries that are members of the America Forum.
VOLCANIC ERUPTION
Island of La Palma
In 2021, the eruption of the Tajogaite volcano on the island of La Palma caused damage to homes, land, and natural areas on the island. In response to this natural disaster, the University of Navarra's School of Architecture launched a project rebuild and restore the area in collaboration with the Cabildo de La Palma, in which students are working on proposals to contribute to the development affected area.
FLOODING
Chiva, Valencia
The increase in flooding is one of the phenomena most closely associated with climate change, an event that forces us to think about new ways of living, planning, and managing the territory. Faced challenge this challenge , the University of Navarra has promoted the project agreement the Pan-American Federation of Architectural Associations (FPPA). The exercise also has the partnership the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV).
Fifth-year architecture students from the university went on an academic trip to Santa Cruz de La Palma to visit the area affected by the volcanic eruption. This year, the exercise consists of developing proposals for the design of a conference and exhibition center on the island.
RESULTS
The "Architecture & Water" exercise stems from the increase in flooding, one of the phenomena most closely associated with climate change. This event forces us to think of new ways of living, planning, and managing the territory. Faced challenge this challenge , each university will choose an area of their country affected by flooding to develop their proposal , taking into account the unique characteristics of the terrain.
In the case of architecture students at the University of Navarra, the chosen area is Chiva (Valencia), one of the municipalities most affected by the DANA that devastated the Valencian Community in October 2024. During the exercise, students will work on proposals to improve the status of the Calicanto urbanization ( located in Chiva).
The exercise is carried out in partnership the Polytechnic University of Valencia and nine Latin American universities.
RESULTS
The project LAB 2025 project , carried out by fifth-year students Degree the University of Navarra, consists of planning an campus designed to host academic extension courses in the affected area. This campus open to universities from around the world, offering a space for study and experience, and promoting partnership in the recovery of the island of La Palma.
Each of the eight participating universities has carried out the exercise using a case study of an area in their country that is undergoing depopulation, so that the analysis and proposals can be assessed from a global perspective.
The results of the exercise (see below), which analyze a problem affecting rural areas around the world from an international perspective, provide insight into how architecture can contribute to solving the problem of depopulation.
The proposal fifth-year students on Degree course Degree the University of Navarra addressed the rehabilitation of the rural area of Monterrei (Galicia, Spain), an area great historical interest dominated by a castle in the province of Orense.
