This Double Master's Degree, of 100 ECTS credit and with a duration of 15 months, allows you to study the Master's Degree in Architecture (MUA) at the same time as the Master's Degree in design and Environmental Management of Buildings (MDGAE), both accredited official qualifications.
With these studies, one acquires the perceptive title that qualifies for the practice of the profession of architect in Spain and, on the other hand, one obtains the specialisation in the area of sustainability. As result, the professional profile of student is completed, making it more attractive in today's job market.
The Double Master's Degree offers a pathway to provide student with a clearly differential value, thanks to training aimed at quality professional practice, adapted to the new social, environmental and economic context and open to the international market.
development It synthesises professional knowledge around the project Final Degree that, through internships, workshops and training at business, enables students to undertake complex and collaborative projects in a changing and global environment, where management skills will allow students to undertake complex and collaborative projects.
The project Final Degree is developed from the beginning of the master's degree, in small groups, permanently advised by a personal tutor and three professors from department of Construction, Installations and Structures, reaching the level of a real executionproject .
It trains experts in sustainability in building, both at design and in the quantification of the efficiency of the measures adopted; offering a large development in the field of environmental and constructive design , focusing on energy management (active and passive measures), the Materials (Materials sustainable, life cycle analysis), environmental certification of buildings (monitoring, LEED, BREAAM) and new construction systems.
In addition to the traditional knowledge in design and technical subjects, the master's degree adds a commitment to training in business to facilitate entrepreneurship and innovation as well as leadership, social commitment and teamwork. result of all this is that you will have adequate training to meet the challenges imposed by a globalised and competitive business market.
With an eye on the immediate present and the near future, the master's degree is committed to adding to the technical and design training, knowledge of leadership and management that opens up a new horizon in the professional profile of student and which will be taught in collaboration with professors from the IESE Business School.
The subjects of business, through the case method, are combined with others specific to the architecture sector, developed by professors from School of Architecture and other professionals with a prestigious and solid professional background.
The curricular professional internships and the Master's Thesis, included in Study program, play an important role in the master's degree. Students will carry out compulsory internships in studios or companies to consolidate the knowledge and skills acquired during the classroom module. The practical training of students acquires a special importance with the completion of the Master's Final Project in a studio or business in the sector. This opportunity involves the application of all the knowledge and skills acquired during the programme in a real environment. With the completion of the TFM at business, the student has contact with the professional reality, acquires professional skills that facilitate their employability and foster their entrepreneurial capacity.
As both master's programmes are official, they can be used for doctoral studies at entrance .
As this is a qualifying master's programme, firstly, students acquire the skills to be able to practice the regulated profession of architect in Spain, to which is added specialised training in sustainabledevelopment (environmental, social and economic sustainability); in design of sustainable and regenerative buildings (design integrated almost zero consumption, active and regenerative buildings); in Quantification of sustainability (energy simulation and life cycle analysis); and in Validation of sustainable architecture (monitoring of buildings and environmental certifications). For all these reasons, the double master's degree qualifies student to work in architectural project teams, construction companies, engineering firms, consultancy and research for the performance of these professional tasks.
Among the possible employment opportunities are:
- design architectural studies and engineering (design and quantification of the passive measures of a new or refurbished architectural project ).
- design of the optimal active measures for each building, with special emphasis on renewable energy systems. Air conditioning, lighting and water management systems.
- Building monitoring (comfort sphere, sensors, thermo-flujimetry, etc.), thermography, infiltration studies, etc.
- Energy simulation of buildings with Design Builder, calculation of thermal bridges using THERM.
- Management, supervision and evaluation of civil works projects.
