Frontenis is one of the 15 specialties of the Basque pelota sport that is played on a 30x10x10 meter court called a wall.
There are two modalities: Olympic Frontenis and Pre-Olympic Frontenis.
Pre-Olympic Frontenis, which emerged in Spain around the 1940's, is mainly practiced at the University. At first it was played with a tennis ball and later the "hair" was removed and pressure was introduced so that the ball would acquire more speed.
In 1970 the first official frontenis league was created in Valencia. It was played with a tennis ball.
The issue of practitioners of this new sport was growing little by little, and at the end of the 1950s specific clubs began to be created for this sport modality.
