Diploma in Bioinformatics is a degree scroll of the University of Navarra, a European supplement to the official degrees in Biology and Biochemistry .

student obtains the diploma by taking 36 ECTS credit made up of a combination of compulsory and optional subjects, including the TFG.

With this diploma the student acquires professional competences to orient their professional development in the world of analysis and treatment of data, through the knowledge of bioinformatics tools and basic concepts of programming and data analysis.

Admission

The student must be enrolled in the Diploma from the 2nd year onwards. You must have applied at the end of the first year.

Candidates will have to have passed the Mathematics, Physics and Biostatistics subjects of the first semester in order to be able to apply for the diploma. The resolutions will be communicated after the publication of the grades of the second semester of the first year.

There will be 15 places in total for students from Degrees at Biochemistry and Biology.


 

Objectives

-To guide the student in accessing the theoretical-practical instructions that facilitate the construction, understanding and analysis of three-dimensional models of organic molecules, both small and biomolecules, and the usefulness of this for the study of biological targets, the design of new drugs, the understanding of their mechanism of action, etc. All this is done through the application of the appropriate computer techniques, which, grouped under the name of molecular modelling, are integrated into the current techniques of computer-assisted drug development (CADD) design .

-Answering complex questions in the relevantscientific field by using information technology to organise, analyse and distribute biological information. It includes the creation, management and enquiry of instructions of data where this information is stored; the development and application of algorithms for retrieving this information knowledge, and the systematic and computational analysis of this information knowledge.

-To provide an overview of these aspects, and to deepen in the recovery of structured information from instructions of data biological . To learn about statistical techniques for data analysis and the generation of hypotheses.

-To introduce the student to the world of programming, learning the language and getting started with the most commonly used programs.

student If you wish, you can fill in your training in the same line with the Master's Degree in Computational Methods in Science.

Big Data, programming, networking, information technology, design software and multimedia, image analysis, etc. are examples of areas in which a graduate at Chemistry, Biochemistry and Biology could work with the profile of this diploma.
