On October 5 and 6, the University of Navarra Museum hosted the symposium "Oteiza and the Sacred", organized by the Chair of language and Basque Culture of the School of Philosophy and Letters of the University.

Sponsored by the Government of Navarre, the meeting was aimed at goal to offer a rereading of Jorge Oteiza's thought and plastic work. The sessions, given by more than a dozen specialists from different disciplines, also addressed some new perspectives of study and placed special emphasis on the artist's religiosity, the sources of his thought, his incursions into sacred art (especially in Aránzazu), his interpretation of mythology and Basque culture, or his proposal of a new monumentality.

"The question of the sacred, the search for transcendence and the will to rethink traditional Christian iconography was always present in the career of the artist Jorge Oteiza: in his sculpture, in his participation in some architectural projects, in his poetry and in his thought", explained Professor Gabriel Insausti, director of the symposium.
