The Expansion of Opus Dei in Spain, Europe and America, 1939-1956
CEJE researchers are working on some aspects of this history. In particular, they are currently working on the historical context and the expansion of Opus Dei in Spain and other countries between 1939 and 1956. In this regard, a project of research graduate : "The expansion of Opus Dei in Spain, Europe and America, 1939 - 1956"is in progress.
Project's goals
The aim is to study an expansive period in the history of Opus Dei (1939-1956), in its Spanish and international dimension. This period was marked by a number of important events in the history of Opus Dei: its first legal approvals, the configuration of its governing organisation, its numerical growth and the sociological diversity of its members. These events are not the direct object of our work, and some of them have been relatively treated in the bibliography.
In particular, it aims to:
1. To deal with the history of Opus Dei's expansion in Spain between 1939 and 1945.
2. To have a precise knowledge of the international expansion of Opus Dei between 1945 and 1956.
3. To make a detailed approach to the lives of the main architects of this geographical expansion, both Spaniards and those who joined Opus Dei outside Spain.
