Modules of the Study program
Each subject is integrated into a subject which in turn is part of a module.
The subjects in Module I cover basic knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry and geology in order to understand biological processes and living beings, as well as to be able to apply the observation, measurement and experimentation techniques of experimental sciences. Likewise, these subjects refer to the study of the natural environment, both the physical environment (hydrological systems, soils, atmospheric and climatic systems) and the microbial components, flora and vegetation, fauna and ecological systems and the functional aspects of organisms and their adaptations to the environment in which they live.
Module I
The subjects in module II are very varied in content, due to their cross-cutting nature, but they are closely interconnected. This module aims to cover the contents on environmental education and communication, promoting social participation in environmental subject providing the student with knowledge on how the environment and human beings are and function and their reciprocal interaction. In addition, the student will be able to obtain knowledge of organisation and management of environmental projects and will be provided with knowledge of cartography and geographic information systems.
Module II
The contents of the subjects that make up module III will provide student with the competences related to Environmental Technology, with the aim of goal to train professionals who are dedicated to activities with a marked technical basis for the improvement of the natural environment, as well as techniques for the treatment and control of air and soil pollution and water and solid waste purification systems.
Module III
The contents of the subjects that make up module IV focus on the study, planning and management of the interaction between humans and the territory towards the objectives of environmental sustainability, respect and conservation, mainly on a landscape scale. This module aims to promote in student the knowledge and interpretation of the landscape and its diversity, through the acquisition of knowledge about the state of conservation of fauna and flora, the planning and management of the geographical space to achieve a sustainable use of the same and the study of the function of protected areas in nature.
Module IV
The contents of the subjects that make up module V provide knowledge on society, economics and the environment, environmental policies, environmental law and public administration. The subjects included in this module will allow the student to study in depth the different environmental planning and management instruments used in the administration and in the business world. They will also provide student with the appropriate tools to study in depth subjects that are integrated into the management of environmental quality in companies, such as eco-efficiency and energy optimisation, prevention of toxicological risks and control of public health and hygiene.
Module V
-
subject II. Environmental management and quality in companies and administrations (.pdf)
In a cross-cutting manner, students are offered general training content, preferably humanistic, which provides them with a solid human and cultural education. In addition, other aspects of vocational training are included, as well as compulsory internships at business .
Module VI
The goal of the Final Project Degree (TFG), module VII, of a compulsory and individual nature, is to offer students the opportunity to apply the knowledge acquired during their studies to carry out a technical project and report, related to the different fields of their own working world. It is an activity that enables student to integrate the knowledge and skills obtained during their studies, allows the maturity of student to be assessed, has a clear professionalising sense and encourages the search for and analysis of a specific topic by student.
Module VII
The subjects included in the Elective Module provide, through different subjects, an in-depth study of the competences related to methodological aspects (Basic techniques of laboratory, Data analysis and Bioinformatics), Plant Ecophysiology, and some in English such as: Phytopathology, Biogeography, Quantitative ecology. In addition, subjects related to environmental risks and policies are introduced to complete the student's curriculum (Radioactivity, Global Change, Environmental risks, Environmental policy and Management, Soil chemistry). The module also includes the completion of Equivalence Credits (up to 6 ECTS credit).

3rd year: internship at business (4 ECTS credit)
Students will obtain 4 ECTS credit by doing a mandatory internship at business in the summer of 3rd year. These internships can be carried out either in companies outside the university environment or in Departments of the University. In these internships, students will put the knowledge acquired during the first three years at the service of the business or Departments of research.
4th course: Data Camp in Boston (2 ECTS credit)
At the end of the 4th year, students will go on a professional trip of approximately one week to carry out a Data Camp with biotech companies mainly. This week will serve to familiarize students to work with data real companies, to analyze them, to draw conclusions, and to close the week sharing the decisions taken after data analysis.
The financial costs of the stay and trips scheduled on diploma are included in the amount of the credit.
