Science and Peace Week

The International Week of Science and Peace reminds us every year that science not only seeks to know the world, but also to improve it. The relationship between science, peace and development is built on cooperation, access to knowledge and Education. UNESCO works to promote science as a common good, at the service of all people. This implies that scientific advances should be shared in an open, equitable and manager manner, so that they contribute to the collective welfare and not only to particular interests.

However, for many young people, science remains a difficult wall to overcome. Social and economic inequalities, cultural backgrounds, migratory movements or digital divides create real obstacles on the road to inclusive scienceEducation . Therefore, an essential part of our educational task is to show that science is all around us, and that understanding science financial aid us to understand the world and to be part of it in a more conscious way.

Science also has a fundamental role to play in public decision-making. Sustainable policies, for example, are based on evidence and require a constant dialogue between science, politics and society. promote this dialogue is a way to strengthen peace. Science Education is, in the last written request, a tool to empower new generations. Learning to observe, question and seek answers fosters critical thinking and responsibility towards the environment and towards others.
