Biodiversity and natural wealth
We seek to understand how biodiversity can be a mainstay in the fighting climate change and environmental degradation
This area is dedicated to deepen the understanding of biodiversity and the management sustainable use of natural resources. It ranges from research on species and ecosystems, to the analysis of the impacts of climate change on biodiversity. Methods for monitoring and preserving ecosystem services, essential for human well-being, are explored. The area also promotes the development of effective conservation policies and practices, and seeks to understand how biodiversity can be a pillar in the fight against climate change and environmental degradation. The integration of emerging technologies is core topic for this goal. In addition, the relationship between biodiversity and human communities is studied.
MONITORING, management AND SCIENTIFIC ECOSYSTEM SERVICES
This line of research focuses on the advanced study of biodiversity, its monitoring and efficient management to preserve vital ecosystem services. State-of-the-art monitoring techniques, such as remote sensing and ecological modeling, are included in order to obtain a more accurate and detailed understanding of ecosystems.
BIODIVERSITY AND CONSERVATION BIOLOGY IN A CHANGING CLIMATE
This line includes research on the effects of climate change on species and ecosystems, as well as strategies for their effective conservation in a constantly changing world. It focuses on understanding the adaptive responses of biodiversity and developing mitigation and adaptation measures to ensure its long-term preservation.
TAXONOMY, EVOLUTION AND SCIENCE OF data
This line integrates taxonomy and evolution with the science of data to classify organisms and explore their evolutionary relationships. It uses data analysis and artificial intelligence techniques to gain a deeper understanding of biodiversity and evolution, decipher patterns of biodiversity distribution, and enhance biological conservation.
