Pollen composition monitoring in Navarre 2025-2029
Pollen composition pollen composition and the variation of pollination periods, promoting adaptation to climate change. adaptation to climate change of the Navarre territory

Between 15% and 20% of the population of Navarre suffers from some subject of pollen allergy, a problem aggravated by the effects of climate change, which is altering both the pollination seasons and the intensity of emissions.
The Government of Navarra, through the Institute of Public and Labor Health of Navarra, coordinates the surveillance of pollen composition in Navarra. Through a tender, the BIOMA Institute carries out the sampling, monitoring, analysis and reporting of data, as well as reinforcing the network of atmospheric pollen collectors in the region.
With the creation of a pollen calendar and the dissemination of alerts to the public, the project aims to improve the quality of life of allergy sufferers and provide the health system with more effective tools for prevention and care.
General objectives
The main goal the study is to improve the monitoring of pollen composition and the variation of pollination periods in relation to climate change and the activities included in it.
Among the commitments of the BIOMA Institute are the work of:
SAMPLE DRAWING
In the Pamplona region, North, average and South zones
POLLEN CHARACTERIZATION AND QUANTIFICATION
Identification and quantification of aerobiological samples agreement to standard pollen analysis procedures.
data SUPPLY
Daily counts, weekly forecasting bulletins, palynological information networks
REPORT WRITING
report summary of the results of the pollen determinations carried out in the four areas of Navarra. report at the end of the year, with the summary of the determinations carried out during each complete year.
PUBLICATION OF RESULTS
To use the data derived from the study for the realization of doctoral programs of study or future research.

WHY IS THIS project NECESSARY?
In Navarra, between 15% and 20% of the population suffers from some subject of pollen allergy. With the advance of climate change, pollination periods and pollen intensity are altered, which directly affects thousands of people. This contract makes it possible to maintain a monitoring network that serves to alert society to atmospheric pollen peaks and to provide public health services with tools to prevent allergic crises.
WHAT SOLUTIONS IS THIS CONTRACT STUDYING?
Thanks to this contract, the pollen monitoring network is being expanded throughout Navarra and new methodologies and algorithms are being developed to calculate the presence of pollen more accurately and efficiently. In addition, the contract allows the implementation of a pollen calendar, which organizes and predicts the seasonality of the different types of pollen. All these advances are shared with the Institute of Public and Labor Health of Navarra to make them available to society in an easily accessible way.
HOW DOES THIS CONTRACT AFFECT THE COMPANY?
This pollen monitoring network in Navarra has a direct impact on public health. It allows the population to anticipate episodes of high pollen concentration, reducing risks and improving the quality of life of allergy sufferers, provides health professionals with reliable and updated information, facilitating diagnosis, treatment and preventive measures, and contributes to adapt Navarra to climate change, by understanding how the vegetation and pollen content in the air has varied following the current climatic dynamics.
