Imanol Miqueleiz carried out his doctorate programs of study at the same university on the conservation status of freshwater fishes. He currently conducts his research at Cornell University (USA), where he studies global patterns of threat and biodiversity in freshwaters and the optimization of the expansion of protected areas in rivers and lakes. He is also the vice-president of the New York chapter of the association of Spanish Scientists in the USA (ECUSA).
